Frontline technicians often rely on supervision and multiple tools, which slows down machine maintenance. On-site support isn’t always possible, leading to inefficiency and delays.

We proposed a service concept and companion app flow for Almer glasses that generates reports, customizes remote assistance, and supports technicians hands-free. They can follow step-by-step guidance, adapt the glasses to their workflow, and document cases directly through the AR headset.

My role
I researched technician workflows and proposed how to integrate remote assistance into AR glasses with the app. I conducted interviews, mapped stakeholder needs, defined the concept and UX flow, and co-created the functional flow and wireframes.

Based on interview process, I developed three distinct personas: frontliner, expert and manager, each representing a different use case for Almer glasses.

However, this exercise revealed a gap in my understanding of the frontliner's specific actions, such as when and how they don the headset, establish a connection, and prioritize their visual sharing.

Users appreciate the expert's point of view and the hands-free capability provided to frontline workers, underscoring its utility in practical scenarios.
Visibility Issues
The screen edges are not visible to the user, which can hinder the full use of the display area.
Tool Functionality
While the pen tool is user-friendly, the absence of precise location tracking complicates its use, making it less effective than anticipated.
Detailing Challenges
It is challenging for users to point out or interact with small details within the AR environment, impacting precision in tasks that require fine interactions.
Content Display Limitations
Displaying information-dense content, such as documents, is problematic, as the screen struggles to effectively show detailed information.
Motion-Related Miscommunication
Movement by either the user or the remote expert often leads to miscommunication, suggesting a need for more robust stabilization and tracking technologies in dynamic environments.
